Farther out of nowhere!
LÚRfestival is an art-festival held in the Westfjords, in Ísafjörður. The young people who plan it call them selfs LÚRarar and their headquarters are in Edinborg in Ísafjörður under the protection of the cultural-center there.
LÚR stands for Lengst út í rassgati, or farther out of nowhere. But in icelandic lúr also means nap and we love naps.
The mission of the festival is, among other things, to create a platform for young artists to become visible and get to know other artists. But it‘s mission is also to connect the community. The festival was first held in the summer of 2014, so this is its fourth year running.
We will have three work-shops during 20.-22.june and the fruit from them and more events will be on the 23.-25.june. More information on our workshop will be posted later.
We are LÚR – farther out of nowhere, but it only takes 35 min to fly here. It‘s great to be here, in the arms of high mountains and in a town so full of life. The guests of the festival can camp at Suðurtangi or the college (Menntaskóli Ísafjarðar) for a small fee. Both places are within walking distance from the town centre.
Ísafjarðarbær is made out of a bunch of small towns consisting of Hnífsdalur, Suðureyri, Flateyri and Þingeyri. All of those places are filled with natural beauty (and I‘m not just talking about the people). They are filled with small, old, cute houses and icelandic nature. A great diversity is to be found in the entertainment in all of the places, f.x. kayaking, hiking, deep-sea fishing, horse-back riding, museum rides, great food and that‘s just a few things to mention.
